Rose McRae - Profile
Rose McRaeI have been dancing since I was 6 years old and have always loved it. I started off with Jill Williams. When I was 11 I started dancing at the Auckland Ballet Academy under the directorship of Julia Barry. Throughout the next 4 or so years I took every class I could fit into my timetable and I seemed to be always doing a dancing exam of some sort. I do recall my mum saying to me that if my schooling dropped I had to drop some dance classes, but I was determined not to let that happen. I was also a member of the Youth ballet, we went out and did various performances at Rest Homes and events, and we also performed regularly on stage.

From the age of about 10, I had the passion to become a Ballet teacher.

At 16 my wish was granted, I was accepted into the Royal Ballet School, London, 3 years Teachers Training Course under the directorship of Miss Valerie Adams. The training was intense, we covered a wide variety of subjects including R.A.D training and theory Pre Primary to Advanced, Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Cecchetti & National Advanced and Associate. The course also included the opportunity to study, learn and teach many different dance styles such as Spanish, Contemporary, Character styles from the Various Countries, Classical Solo Variations, Repertoire, Music Training, Child Development, “A” level Dance Studies, General Studies also Benish Notation and many other associated skills.

I graduated in July 1995 & returned to New Zealand after a trip around Europe. On my return home I decided to complete my Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Modern Examinations to Advanced level.

I was fortunate to pick up a job teaching at the Auckland Ballet Academy. I stayed there for a couple of years but decided I would like to try free lance teaching for a while to get an idea of how other schools where run. I was fortunate enough to get work with Jill Williams, Stewart Dance Studios - Takanini, Mount Eden Ballet Academy & Auckland Academy of Dance - New Lynn. I got married in 1999.

I have also had the opportunity to teach at various Holiday Seminars throughout the country including Invercargill, Tauranga, Rotorua, Hamilton, Thames, Ngatea, & Whangarei, I have also adjudicated at various Competitions in the North Island; Auckland, Tauranga & Kapiti Coast and have enjoy every moment of it.

Now I have the exciting challenge of running five dance schools in Auckland.

Dance teaching, I feel, is one of the fortunate career choices, where you can enjoy your passion for dance; share it with others all in a days work.
