Julia Barry - Profile
Julia Barry  Julia graduated with the Diploma of the Royal Ballet School Teachers' Training Course, London, in 1977 and emigrated to New Zealand with her Kiwi husband.  She spent two years as a dancer and Ballet Mistress in Russell Kerr's ‘Dance in Schools' performance company, whilst also establishing her teaching career. Julia holds the Royal Academy of Dance Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Teaching Diplomas, Associate teaching qualifications in the National Dance, Modern Theatre Dance, Imperial Ballet and Cecchetti Ballet Branches of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, a Teaching Diploma in Benesh Dance Notation and is a certified Polestar Pilates Matwork instructor.

Julia ran her own highly successful large ballet school, the Auckland Ballet Academy, from 1985-1995, with many former students progressing on to tertiary dance courses and professional dancing and teaching careers in New Zealand and overseas.  Since having her children, who are now teenagers, Julia has taught free-lance at many dance schools and seminars throughout New Zealand and has been very involved with assisting students in preparing for auditions for professional schools and with training dance teachers.   In 2006, Julia again established her own dance school, EnhanceDance, specializing in vocational level students and youth performance group, Auckland Young Dancers.

To provide additional opportunities for students, EnhanceDance and Auckland Young Dancers merged with the Rose McRae Dance Academy in 2008.  With Rose being a former student of Julia's, this has proved to be a very easy and happy transition. Julia is also a senior teacher at the Apollo Theatre School full-time Diploma in Musical Theatre course, a Tutor and Practical Teaching Supervisor for the Royal Academy of Dance Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies and is currently the Chairperson of the Industry Advisory Committee for the Auckland University of Technology Bachelor of Dance degree.  At the end of 2008, Julia completed two years of part-time distance learning study, gaining a Master of Creative Industries (Dance Teaching) degree with Distinction from Queensland University of Technology.
